Symbol Intel Projects

Symbol Intel is working on several unique projects that focus on the ritual and symbolic aspects of the war on terrorism, ritualistic crimes, new religious movements, gangs and other subcultural groups. Ongoing research includes; documenting contemporary acts of desecration / iconoclasm such as the Taliban blowing up the ancient Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan, Muhammad cartoons and other Islamic controversies; blood libels and other acts of propaganda; and charting ritual mutilations and beheadings in the war on terrorism. The results of Symbol Intel research projects are available in intelligence reports, publications and specialized training.

Desecration Controversies in the War on Terrorism

Symbol Intel has been documenting and analyzing many highly publicized desecration controversies inclusive of Quran desecration, Mosque desecration, desecration of the bodies of Muslim soldiers and cartoons of Muhammad. Specific iconoclastic acts perpetrated by Islamic extremists such as the desecration of statues, mosques and churches and protests that entail the burning of effigies and flags are also part of this inquiry.
